Is Pattaya A Good Place To Live
Pattaya is a fantastic place to live as a foreigner, But whether Pattaya is suitable for you or not will depend on your lifestyle needs.
For example, living in Pattaya as a foreigner is certainly not the cheapest option if you are looking to live cost-effectively in Thailand; therefore, if your lifestyle is more suited for the cheaper cost of living, then it’s recommended to take a look at areas of Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai as these are often much more cost-effective for expats.
Pattaya is well known for its adult entertainment and nightlife for gentlemen. This is very common and visible in Pattaya. If you are a Singleton and use applications such as Thai friendly or Tinder, you may find that many professionals find their customers via online dating sites.
Pattaya, however, has so much more to offer than these two areas; however, the visible entertainment and cost of living are important factors that are important to consider when an expat decides if Pattaya is suitable to live in.
It’s often recommended to spend a few weeks in Pattaya if you consider living in this area. You quickly gain a feel of the city and the lifestyle, but the good news is whether you like the area or not, it is highly accessible to other areas such as Bangkok and Rayong.
How Much To Live Comfortably In Pattaya
Previously we have documented how much to live comfortably in Pattaya and covered several different categories such as how much you will need as a retiree and how much you will need as an expart, etc., however, to summarise specific points…
In order to live comfortably in Pattaya, it is recommended to budget at least $1000- $1400 USD per month. The total amount you will need will depend on your accommodation type, living expenses, and lifestyle.
Over the years, there have been reported cases of the expat community living on much less than $1000 in Pattaya per month. Due to my personal experiences and looking over the statistics, it is indeed possible to live on a lower amount. Still, budgeting will be essential if you are looking to live in Pattaya for less than $1000 USD.
Will Pattaya Recover After Covid-19
The pandemic era has had an impact on life in Pattaya. Pattaya is a city known for its clubs and bars; due to the lockdown, some parts of the city can feel eerie. This is because the area was full of life previously, but now it is semi-closed and empty.
However, over the past two months, Pattaya has seen a decline in new cases of Coronavirus. Recent changes across Thailand look promising for those who wish to return to Pattaya.
Many believe that Pattaya will recover after COVID-19, but the unanswered question is when? Various travel authorities believe that Pattaya will return to normal during mid-2022. However, others believe that life in Pattaya will return to normal as late as 2023/2024.
What we do know, however, when looking at will Pattaya recover after COVID-19 is that it will not be a sudden improvement. It will be a gradual process. This is similar to what we’ve seen in other cities and provinces around Thailand. In other words, tourism will slowly return, regulations will be dropped, and this will be tied in closely with the ongoing battle with COVID-19.

Pattaya is much cheaper to live in and visit compared to Bangkok. In both cities, it is possible to live cheaply; however, budgeting wisely and living in a suitable area are both key components to reduce the cost of living both in Pattaya and Bangkok

The most expensive category for living in Pattaya for foreigners tends to be accommodation, beer, and entertainment costs. However, if you are an individual who lives an ordinary life and you do not drink regularly, you will find Pattaya much less expensive than other expats.
However, due to the current pandemic era, prices are considerably lower than they were during Pattaya’s peak times. Therefore, it is often much easier to negotiate and find a fair price.
